Photography for Live Sport and Competition

Sport rarely gives you a second chance at a photograph.

A goal, reaction, celebration or decisive moment can happen in seconds, so my approach is based on anticipating the action rather than responding once it has already happened.

Over the past five years, I’ve photographed in a range of sporting environments, including work for Manchester United, Misfits and Wilder Fight Night.

The aim is to create a strong, useful set of images that reflects both what happened and how it felt to be there.

The Coverage

More Than Just the Action

The obvious sporting moment is only part of the story.

Depending on the brief, I’ll look beyond the centre of the action to the reactions, athletes, atmosphere, people around the event and wider details that help build a more complete picture.

For teams, organisers and brands, that can mean creating photography for:

  • Social media and digital content
  • Websites and editorial use
  • Marketing and promotional campaigns
  • Event and competition coverage
  • Brand and sponsor visibility where required

The exact balance is shaped around the needs of the project.

My Approach

Working in Live Sporting Environments

Good sports photography relies heavily on reading what is happening in front of you.

I’m constantly watching where the action is developing, what might happen next and what is taking place away from the most obvious moment.

Different sports and assignments demand different approaches, so I work around the event rather than forcing every brief into the same style of coverage.

Once the requirements are clear, I can concentrate on photographing the event and building a varied set of images without needing the client to direct every shot.

Teams, Events & Brands

Sports Photography Shaped Around the Brief

I photograph sports projects for teams and clubs, competition organisers, sporting events, brands and other organisations that need professional imagery from live sport.

A club may need photographs for fixtures, websites and ongoing social content. An event organiser may need wider coverage showing competitors, atmosphere and the scale of the event. A commercial brief may place greater emphasis on athletes, environment or brand visibility.

Before the shoot, we can establish the important details, including:

  • Date and location
  • Type of sport or event
  • Required coverage
  • Key people or areas of focus
  • How the photography will be used

Every assignment is quoted individually around the requirements of the project.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of sports photography do you cover?

I photograph live sport, competitions and projects for teams, organisations and sports brands.

The exact coverage depends on the brief, whether the priority is action, atmosphere, people around the event or a wider set of images for editorial, social or marketing use.

Do you travel for sports photography?

Yes. I’m based in Manchester but available for sports photography assignments throughout the UK and internationally.

If travel is required, any associated costs can be included clearly within the project quote.

How much does sports photography cost?

Sports photography is quoted individually because the requirements can vary between assignments.

Send over the date, location, type of sport and the coverage you need, and I can provide a quote based on the project.

Can the photography be tailored around our marketing requirements?

Yes. The brief can be shaped around how the final images need to be used, whether that is for social media, websites, editorial content, promotional material or wider event coverage.
